Duluth Minnesota Fishing Leagues - News
MMTS News
Night 4, June 11 was a high scoring event.  Good weather for a change, but Island Lake is always a tough egg to crack.  But teams are figuring it out.

First place went to Team TGIF with a 4-species bag with limits of northerns and smallmouth bass, including lots of bonus fish and a few rock bass and perch, for a score of 210 points.

Second went to the Scared Fishless with a 6 six species bag including bluegills, perch, rock bass, crappie, smallmouth bass and a pike. Third tonight was the Old Farts, again, with another five species bag.  The big fish for the night was smallmouth bass and Team Old Farts won that with a respectable 18 inch smallmouth bass.  The wildcard was for 4th and went to Team Patience.  Congrats to everyone for another great night.

Fishers of Men took a strong 6th place finish and keeps the run for rookie of the year heating.  The Team Lucky not Good scored another three species bag and is keeping the bar high.  Keep up the great work and good luck to everyone.

Night 3, June 4 was another tough night.  Bad weather all week, cold fronts, tough bites.  Still our teams got the job done.

First place went to Team TGIF with a 3-species bag with limits of walleyes and bonus crappies upto 12.5 inches long, along with a pike for a 127 points.

Second went to the good guys from Team Patience, with a three species bag including three big walleyes, perch and a pike. Third tonight was the Old Farts with another three species bag.  The big fish for the night was northern pike and Team Gone Postal won that with a respectable 32 inch pike.  They also won the wildcard for the night ending up in 6th place.  Congrats to everyone for another great night.

Team Better Lucky than Good is setting the pace for the rookie teams this year, consistently getting a fish to score.  Keep up the great work and good luck to everyone.

DABL News
Night 3 was very windy, A group was to be on Sturgeon Lake but due to the high winds, we moved it to Sand Lake. This lake is a little more protected. All teams that were on Sand Lake caught fish and most had limits. Great job guys with no pre-fishing you all found fish!

B group was on Island and they had a few limits, sounds like a few teams caught alot of little fish. Great job guys for catching fish in these type of conditions!

The storm never did come as we predicted just alot of wind and a few spinkles!

Night 2 on Fish Lake had us in bad weather again.  But this year, no hail.  Still everyone caught fish and lots of them.

Congratulations to Choppers for winning with a 6 species bag including a limit of rock bass and bluegills, and a huge pike.  Great job guys.

Second went to Team TGIF with 5 species and 3 limits.  Third went to the Old Farts with 5 species including 2 limits and many bonus crappies.

Our big fish of the night was crappie and Team Gone Postal won that with a 13 inch crappie, picking up the Pat Cooke Agency (Farmers) Big Fish Prize.  And the wildcard winner was 8th place, Team Barley Afloat winning the Mr. D's certificates.

Other highlights including 4 largemouth bass caught by Team Patience and 4 nice walleyes caught by Team Iron River Sports.  Great job..

Thanks everyone for another great day..

MMTS News
Our first night was on the St. Louis River.  The weather was terrible and water levels were still very low.  Even with everything looking bad some fish were brought in.

Congratulations to Team Gone Postal for pulling it out with the only 4 species bag including rock bass, crappies, a catfish and the only limit of northerns.  Great job guys.

Second went to last years rookies of the year, Team Barley Afloat.  They had 3 bonus walleyes 18.5", 22.5" and 23", plus a rock bass.  Third went to Scared Fishless with a 3 species bag of catfish, crappies, and perch.

Our big fish of the night was walleyes and Team Barley Afloat won that, picking up the Pat Cooke Agency (Farmers) Big Fish Prize.  And the wildcard winner was 7th place, Team Fish Tales and they win the Mr. D's certificates.

One rookie team, Team Lucky Not Good, pulled off 4th place with 3 bonus walleyes and a northern.  Great job..

Thanks everyone for a great start to the year.

We want to say "Thanks" to our many sponsors: the Little Stores, Marine General, RJ Sport & Cycle, Pat Cooke Agency, Fisherman's Corner, and our many other sponsors.

This year our new sponsor, Pat Cooke Agency, Farmers Insurance, will be sponsoring a big fish winner each night.  Approximately $20 in certificates and/or fishing gear per night to the biggest fish for that night.  Chub Lake will be pike, Big Lake will be Largemouth Bass, Island Lake north will be Smallmouth Bass, etc.  Thanks Pat for the great idea and support.

We'll have your cards from the Little Stores tonight at our meeting.  Since we have been moving our website, this is the first time we could post it.

See ya at Mr. D's tonight, Monday, Apr. 30, at 7:00pm.  This is not a manudatory meeting and we are mainly asking the teams not paid in, to pay and getting the Little Store cards out.  If you have a team or two that wants in, the time is getting short.
